Antique Chinese burial potteries were the potteries that were buried with their owners during the burial rituals in China since the Neolithic period along with various jade weapons, vessels and sophisticated bronze objects. Chinese potteries of various designs, shapes and sizes were buried in the tombs after the mortuary rituals of high-ranking elites in large numbers so as to display the signs of wealth of the dead person or merely as a status symbol. Studies reveal that potteries were placed by the corpse filled with food with the belief that the spirit would require the food when it returns back in the body.
The local style of antique Chinese burial potteries differed from region to region in China during the Neolithic age.
